Sean Gaven

Fellow members of IAAIA,

It has been an exciting year in FY2008 as we put the curtain down with a successful conference that was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. On behalf of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Airline Internal Auditors (IAAIA), I wish to express my gratitude to all the members for your invaluable contribution, participation and undivided support to IAAIA. Throughout FY2008, the IAAIA has successfully organisedorganized the 17th IAAIA Annual Conference in Addis Ababa and also held a workshop on Fuel Management in Kuala Lumpur. I personally would like to extend my deepest appreciation and thanks the IAAIA Executive Committee who has voluntarily took on the extra responsibilities in contributing to the association and in making these events exceptionally successful.

FY2009 stands to be a challenging year in the current economic climate. Notwithstanding the present turmoil, IAAIA will continue to strive as an association that will contribute in providing quality, value added services and effective propositions for our members. Apart from the annual conference, we will organiseorganize one workshop which set as a platform for our members to exchange audit experiences so as to enhance our audit skill and knowledge.

We are delighted to announce that Etihad Airways will proudly host the 18th IAAIA Annual Conference from 29 November 2009 to 2 December 2009 at the InterContinental hotel in the vibrant city of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The theme for this coming conference is “Drilling Deeper in Shifting Sand Storms – Internal Audit the Reliable Partner!”. RecognisingRecognizing the essential roles that internal auditors will need to undertake in today’s turbulent economy, the Executive Committee is currently working conscientiously in designing a conference programme which capture the needs of internal auditors, being most recent and pertinent topics in the airline industry.

The IAAIA is proud to inform all the members that we will continue offering the conference at an exceptional all inclusive rate of $995USD (includes 3 nights accommodation, meals, and evening events). Additionally, the conference will provide an added value of continuous professional education to earn CPE hours and provides a platform to network with fellow colleagues from other airlines.

The conference venue, Abu Dhabi, is the federal capital of United Arab Emirates, the largest of the seven emirates making up the UAE. Abu Dhabi has been transformed to a modern city with high-rise buildings, broad boulevards and luxury hotels asserting itself as a luxury travel and business destination as well as a cultural centre in the region. We have considered fascinating social activities within the conference programme including dhow dinner and tour of interesting attractions of the dynamic city of Abu Dhabi. You definitely do not want to miss it this great opportunity!

For information about the IAAIA, the annual conference and other events, please feel free to contact myself or any of the Executive Committee members. Your suggestion and feedback is important and valuable to us.

I look forward to see you at the IAAIA events especially at the 18th IAAIA conference in Abu Dhabi! Do log on to our IAAIA website to find latest news, further updates and announcements from us.

Best Regards
Raja Azura Raja Mahayuddin
